The 6978 (123.hp.com/ojp6978) is an e-printer because of its ability to connect to the web through an Ethernet or by the Wi-Fi (wireless connection). The model is also compatible with Google Cloud Print as well as Apple Air Print, which makes it really easy to setup a wireless connection through your wireless network. The 6978 printer also provides the user with the ‘Remote Printing’ facility by way of ePrint.

Officejet Pro 6978 (123.hp.com/ojp6978) First time Printer Install
Pry the tape to open the box and fold the flaps back so that you can remove the items from inside easily
Inside the box, right on top,are the accessories and some paperwork intended for the printer
In the papers you will find:

- The ‘Quick Start Guide’, which provides basic instructions to setup your printer

- Some legal information and a QR code that will provide you with more information about your printer

- You will also find the 2nd paper tray installation instructions

- A multi-language ‘Getting Started’ guide that acts both as a setup and troubleshooting manual

- High-quality brochure papers that are good for printing brochures and flyers
Next, within the box you will find two discs:

- The first is installation disc for your Windows and Mac operating systems
Note: If you are using an operating system other than what is present on the disc you can always visit the manufacturer’s website to download the relevant information.

- The second disc contains the Readiris software that can convert your scans into editable text formats on your computer
Along with the box you will also get:

- A normal universal power cord, which you will require to power on your printer

- The 2-wire fax cable that will enable to setup fax functionalities on the printer

- The next item on the top of the box is the printer’s setup cartridges and an extra set of color cartridges, which you can use when you run out of ink (these are not setup cartridges)
Note: The 6978 (123.hp.com/ojp6978) particularly contains the ‘setup’ cartridges that are designed to help you initialize your printer. It is imperative that you use these when you first setup your printer.

- There is also the duplexer for the printer – this allows the printer to print on both sides of the paper – you can slide it and remove it out of the bag and set it aside for later use

- Take out the 2nd paper tray by removing the other pieces of Styrofoam – remove the protective film around it and keep it aside
Remove the printer(123.hp.com/ojp6978) from the box and slide it out by pulling the plastic and set it on a flat surface – take away all the tapes and other packing material around, on or inside the printer
Also peel away the tape from the control panel
Now, install the duplexer:

- Go to the back of the printer

- Hold the duplexer in one hand and slide it directly into the back till you hear it snap
Second tray installation:

- Remove all the tapes in and around it

- First center up the second tray

- Then lift the printer up and set it on top of it

- The little pins and slots are designed to line the printer and tray perfectly

Hardware Setup

- Connect the power cord – Plug the printer cable in the back – make sure that it is firmly in place
- Plug the cord into an electric outlet or power source
- Press the power button for the printer to come on
From the control panel, you can setup your language, region and then press ‘Continue’ to setup the printer.
ePrint Setup

To use the ePrint service, you have to setup the Web Services first
You can setup and manage Web Services from the printer’s control panel easily
For enabling Web Services:
- Connect the printer to the internet
- Touch the ePrint icon on the printer’s control panel
- A prompt will ask you to accept the Web Services terms of use – Press ‘Accept’
- Web Services will now be enabled
Note: You can press on ‘Auto-Update’ to let the printer check for any product updates, automatically.
For your network proxy use the following settings:
- Press ‘Enter Proxy’
- At the prompt, enter the proxy server settings
- Touch ‘Done’ to complete the action
Note: Another alternative to setup the Web Services would be the EWS or Embedded Web Server.
Using the Printer Software for setting up Web Services on your Windows computer:
- On your computer desktop screen click on ‘Start’
- Select ‘Programs’ and click on ‘HP’
- Open your printer folder by clicking on it and select your printer’s icon
- First, double click ‘Web Connected Solutions’ and then ‘ePrint Setup’
- The embedded web services window (for the printer) opens up
- Under ‘Web Services’ click on ‘Setup’ and then ‘Web Services Settings’
- Click on ‘Accept’ to accept the terms of use – this will enable web services
- Press ‘Next’ and then ‘Yes’ for the printer to automatically check for updates
Note: To finish the setup, you just have to follow the instructions on the Web Services Information Sheet.
Google Cloud Print
Google Cloud Print for Officejet Pro 6978 (123.hp.com/ojp6978)
- As a free service, the Google Cloud Print allows you to print documents from any network-enabled device to your Officejet Pro 6978 printer.
- No software or driver download is required for this feature.
- To enable Cloud Print:
- Check if your computer has standard browsers and operating systems installed such as Chrome, OS X v10.7, Linux, Windows XP or newer
- Create a Google account
- The printer and device should both be connected to the same network
- Turn the Officejet Pro 6978 printer on
- Sign in to your Google account from the Chrome browser
- Select Show Advanced Settings in the Settings window
- In the Manage button select Google Cloud Print
- You can Register your device under New devices, where your ojpro6978 printer will be listed
- In another case, the printer may also be listed under My devices in which case you just have to choose Manage
- To Print a document:
- Open the Chrome browser and Sign in to your Google account
- Click on Print in the Google Cloud Print Jobs
- Then click on Select a file from my computer under Upload a file to Print
- Open a document to print and click on the print command
